This study aims to launch an e-health application to help motivate academics active participation in \r\nhealth-promoting activities. It is an on-going project about understanding and enhancing \r\nacademics involvement in health-related activities. \r\n \r\nAn Internet-based platform coined as Preparing Academics Health for Tomorrows Education \r\n(PAHTE) was designed and implemented. Based on a pre-established health database, the PAHTE \r\nallows the users to conduct self-assessment of health status and obtain online feedback in visual \r\ndemonstrations. A customized health profiling function is also provided to help the users keep \r\ntracking their health-promoting performance over time. It is expected that with this platform \r\napplication academics may have a better opportunity to pay close attention to their health-related \r\nissues....
This research was conducted to determine if there were consistent differentials, or patterns in\r\nthe peer grading that could be utilized to further understand the potential impact on student\r\ngrades with the use of summative peer evaluations in this presentation style of interactive\r\nassessment activity for first year business students. The data was reviewed in aggregate, and\r\nthen on individual, booth by booth comparison. The evaluation grades from the peer or ââ?¬Ë?noviceââ?¬â?¢\r\nevaluators were within the same range as those provided by the faculty or ââ?¬Ë?expertââ?¬â?¢ evaluators.\r\nThe research also introduced a variant on peer evaluation as the peer evaluators were senior\r\nyear students three years ahead of their ââ?¬Ë?peersââ?¬â?¢. The available information on peer assessment\r\nstudies targeting year one students is limited (Nulty, 2011) and this case study provides further\r\nevidence of the use of peer evaluation in first year of post-secondary....
Health information systems are of extreme importance and they became an intrinsic part of the\r\nhealthcare sector. However, in todays molds and with the advent of the Internet and mobile\r\ndevices, a paradigm shift, from the current isolated systems to interoperable distributed systems,\r\nthat take advantage of ubiquitous computing, is needed. In critical situations, such as decision\r\nmaking in healthcare, it is necessary to have access to all of the patients information; for the\r\ninformation must be reliable and must be accessed in an easy and fast way. The present work\r\nproposes an architecture that aims to answer the needs of interoperability between heterogeneous\r\nhealth information systems and the need for ubiquity of medical information. A prototype was\r\ndeveloped that tries to provide interoperability through a service-oriented architecture using web\r\nservices. A mobile component was also developed to enable ubiquitous access to medical\r\ninformation. This work is based on the authors knowledge about the Portuguese National Health\r\nService....
This study aims to examine the perceptions regarding systems thinking and shared vision and\r\nmission of librarians in an academic library in Malaysia. In this preliminary study,\r\nquestionnaires were distributed to fifty academic librarians in one large public university in\r\nMalaysia. The result shows that respondents perception on shared vision and mission, systems\r\nthinking and knowledge performance are very similar and moderately positive. In addition, a\r\nstrong relationship exists between shared vision and mission and systems thinking. Shared\r\nvision and mission has a higher correlation with knowledge performance than systems\r\nthinking. The result also shows that there are no differences in the perceptions between males\r\nand females, middle and senior management as well as between those with bachelor degree\r\nand master qualifications. The outcome of the study is expected to lead librarians to improve\r\nthe skills to acquire knowledge and learning capabilities for better knowledge performance in\r\nthe academic library....
